Today we are releasing Van Dyke Parks’ and Verónica Valerio’s newly recorded interpretations of Agustin Lara’s »Veracruz«. Says Van Dyke Parks about the track: “Verónica wanted to pay tribute to the great composer of the Yucatan, Agustin Lara, who defined bolero, writing hits that crossed the aisle from the 30-60s hit-parades. We focus on “rumbada”, a genre of music that emigrated to Mexico in the ’30s. It’s a style of music fashioned in Havana’s finest hotels and night clubs.”
The 10” »Only in America – Solo en América« will be released on June 11th via Modern Recordings. A Chamber-music Suite of Songs of the Yucatan, featuring the poetry of Verónica Valerio and orchestrated by Van Dyke Parks. The pre-sale starts today.
